VMware のサイトから VMware Server の 2.0.2 tar.gz パッケージをダウンロードする。

Ubuntu 用のインストールスクリプトをダウンロードする。

インストールスクリプトを解凍し、スクリプトと同じディレクトリに VMware Server の圧縮ファイルを置く。

スクリプトファイルと VMware Server の圧縮ファイルが置かれているディレクトリまでのパスに空白が含まれると正しく実行できないので注意する。

$ sudo ./vmware-server-2.0.x-kernel-2.6.3x-install.sh

スクリプトを実行すると warning メッセージが大量に出力だれるが、スクリプトが終了してしまわない限り大丈夫。

Ubuntu Documentation VMware Server

apt-get dist-upgrade でカーネルのアップデートがあると、再起動後に VMWare Server が動かなくなる。 動かなくなったら以下のコマンドで再コンパイルする。

$ sudo /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl

エンター連打で前回の設定が適用される。

コンパイル後は自動で VMWare Server が立ち上がる。
